It is my personal preference that either..guild chat be out of character, with a seperate channel for in-character (as this seems to promote more conversation between guild members..thus making everyone more comfortable with each other, and causing people to get to know each other more easily).
Or-
to encourage/enforce ventrilo activity and maintain an in-character guild chat, with a seperate out of character channel.
Now, i'm a bit more lax on ventrilo activities. I believe that activity ought to be encouraged..and that participation is required, but that is it not required for you to log onto vent every time you play that game. Only that you do log on some of the time. I am known to get on sometimes and do mundane things while crafting/leveling, and sometimes I just don't want to chat. So I hate being forced to log onto vent every time I log onto the game.
Also, I believe it is important to enforce a policy wherein players on ventrilo move to seperate vent channels when participating in group activities.. PvP, PvE, etc. This is so they do not clutter the general channel with their discussions of the battle, etc.
